Perfect Blue is a film by Sotashi Kon. This cinematic masterpiece is easily one of the most impactful anime films to date. Satashi Kon's work inspired films like Inception and Black Swan. Director of Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky, wanted to make a live-action adaptation of Perfect Blue with Satoshi Kon before he made Black Swan. That didn't happen but Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan is almost an exact replica of Perfect Blue. The main characters' names are even similar, in Perfect Blue, the main character's name is Mima and in Black Swan, Natalie Portman plays the lead role of Nina.
Like inception and black swan, Perfect Blue depicts a world where reality is blurred.
In Perfect Blue Satoshi Kon tells a story of how the media affects society and the way we view ourselves. The film speaks to how our physical world is easily warped with the persona of our online avatars, and the unspoken pressure our online presences create.
